In the 2020-2021 academic year, during the school stage, 10th-grade students were given a task in Geography. The task required replacing the gaps in the text (indicated by numbers in brackets) with words (such as nouns, adjectives, noun phrases, or numbers) that could be geographic names or concepts. The answers were to be written in the nominative singular case, regardless of the numbers and cases of the words in the text. One of the tasks involved identifying the oldest national park in Russia (No.2), which was established to protect and restore the population of valuable fur animal species (No.4). There are currently over 100 national parks in Russia, 36 of which have a reserve status (No.5). The main reason for creating such protected areas is to preserve valuable plant and animal species, such as the ones protected in one of the largest and oldest national parks of the European part of Russia, which was named after a cultural region inhabited by the Sami people, a small ethnic group with their own language (No.6, 7, 8). The Russian Federation also has the largest national park in Russia and Eurasia, which protects the Siberian tiger (No.9). The creation of a national park in Bashkortostan to protect a species of wild bees, which play a crucial role in the traditional livelihoods of the Bashkir people, is a unique case (No.10, 11, 12). Other examples include the first marine national park in Russia, located in the Bay of (No.13, 14, 15), and the national park protecting the species (No.4), located in a region considered one of the World Heritage Sites in Russia (No.16, 17, 18). This park is also known for protecting the largest species of feline, which is often depicted on the coat of arms of cities and districts in the region. National parks also preserve unique landscapes and natural monuments, such as the geological monument in the Republic of (No.20, 21, 22) and the sacred site for the smallest titular ethnic group in Russia, the (No.23, 8). It is worth noting that national parks are often considered as the largest unspoiled areas of boreal forests (No.24). All these facts could help students to prepare for the All-Russian Geography Olympiad for 10th-grade students.
