What is your interpretation of the meaning of the words: «a teacher not knowing their students means losing sight and condemning themselves to work blindly, without the slightest hope of success»? Write an essay — reasoning, with 2 examples from the text! (minimum of 70 words) (1) There was always liveliness in Natalya Andreevna’s class, the kind that only a united and coordinated work can create. (2) Sitting in her class, listening to how she talks to them and how eagerly and intelligently they respond, was truly delightful. (3) And at those moments, I had a vague feeling as if all of this had already happened to me. (4) It didn’t immediately occur to me: it was in the school years; we used to have the same joy and interest in Anna Ivanovna’s lessons. (5) Even more interesting than the lessons themselves, were Natalya Andreevna’s stories about her students. (6) Listening to her, I learned such details about them that only the closest person would know, only an intelligent and observant mother. (7) And I noticed: with special enthusiasm and love, Natalya Andreevna talks about not the best and most exemplary students, but about those who are difficult. (8) Natalya Andreevna and I were sitting in her empty classroom. (9) It was already dark, and we still hadn’t lit a fire. (10) The rain tapped on the windows, and even though I listened to her with eager attention, I felt sad. (11) — But what, what is the most important thing in our work? — I asked quietly. (12) — I understand, there are no ready-made recipes, every time you have to act differently. (13) But is there really nothing most important that exists even in the most difficult and confusing case? (14) — The most important thing? — Natalya Andreevna repeated thoughtfully. (15) — Let me tell you a story. (16) We had a young teacher working with us. (17) I visited her classes. (18) Not bad, as if. (19) Lessons according to all the rules of methodology. (20) I ask: «Do you have good students?» (21) — «Good,» she answers. (22) «Tell me, what about that boy in the first row, what does he represent?» (23) — «He’s an excellent boy. (24) He only gets straight A’s. (25) He’s smart and clever.» (26) — «And that black-eyed one, in the blue shirt?» (27) — «He’s an average student. (28) But disciplined.» (29) — «And that curly-haired one with freckles?» (30) — «He gets mostly B’s, but in math, there are no grades lower than an A»… (31) And, you know, — Natalya Andreevna continued, — suddenly all these — black-eyed and blue-eyed, dark-skinned, fair-haired, freckled — all became the same, and only one thing distinguished them: a student with B’s, a student with C’s, a student with D’s, an excellent student… (32) Well, think for yourself, can you characterize a student with just grades! (33) As if a grade can define a person, even if they are only eight years old! (34) That’s what I told her. (35) And she said to me so calmly: «I have 40 of them, I can’t know each one individually.» (36) I’ll tell you: I got scared. (37) How can you work with children if you don’t know them? (38) How can you teach them — even spelling or multiplication tables? (39) Forty — that’s forty different personalities, and believe me, there are no two alike that can be confused with each other. (40) For a teacher not to know their students means losing sight and condemning themselves to work blindly, without the slightest hope of success. (41) It’s just madness! (42) You’re asking what is the most important thing. (43) For an educator, the most important, the most crucial thing is to understand the student. (44) Sometimes you talk to a student in class, during exams, evaluate their knowledge, sometimes even give them a character reference, and still truly know nothing about them. (45) And you’re waiting, hoping, anticipating that moment, that sometimes unexpected event, which will reveal the hidden in the person. (46) In those moments, like under a spotlight, everything becomes illuminated, everything becomes clear… (by F. Vigdorova)
