Over the centuries, due to various historical events, the English language spread across the globe. Five centuries ago, English was not spoken in North America; the American Indians had their own languages, as did the Eskimos in Canada, the aborigines in Australia, and the Maoris in New Zealand. English colonists arrived and established their settlements. Today, English is prevalent on every continent.

Nevertheless, according to experts, English has better prospects for fulfilling this purpose.

C. When William the Conqueror invaded England in 1066, French became the official language of the court. The English continued to care for the animals and prepare their meat, retaining the names pig, sheep, and cow for the animals. The Normans, when they saw cooked meat on their table, used French terms like pork, mutton, and beef. Astonishingly, during this period, English adopted 10,000 words, including terms such as table, chair, carpet, country, state, nation, law, army, battle, peace, beauty, etc.

D. Geographically, English is the most widespread language globally and is second only to Chinese in terms of the number of speakers. According to a recent study, 90% of British teenagers do not plan to learn any foreign languages. Perhaps it’s because they don’t feel the need to, who knows?
